There are few vital points that have to be kept in mind while shopping online. These are as follows:
- It’s important to look for a security lock on the bottom right of your browser window, and an https in the URL field.
- If the website is not https enabled, do not buy from it. Buy only from trusted websites.
- Experts never advise a debit card for online transactions. Incase your account is compromised; there will be no redressal options. If it is a credit card, you can later challenge the transactions.
- If you are shopping on an unfamiliar site, then check that there is a landline phone number and postal address.
- Experts advise that users should keep different password for each account. It is a huge hassle, but one that must be suffered, atleast for accounts relating to email, pay pal, bank, ecommerce and credit cards.
- Have strong passwords for all your accounts. (A strong password these days is atleast 10 characters long, with atleast one special character, four numerals and atleast one capital letter)While accessing internet-banking accounts, one should always use the virtual keypad. This protects against malicious loggers.
